What we use to make our music

We use a PC with Cubase SX2 (old and shit, i know), as our interface. Saving up right now for an upgrade!

For bass, our favourite softsynths are the Korg Lecacy emulation of the MS20, and the Moog Modular emulation. Both sound really warm and thick with the right processing.

For general synthage, our favourites are Z3ta, Moog mod again and Albino (generally sounds pretty thin, but it’s great for knocking up something quickly).

For drums, we have built up a huge sample library over the years, but generally we wont use anything without layering, processing and general jiggery-pokery!

FX and noises, it’s all about audio processing, bouncing, importing, chopping up processed, process again. Sound Forge comes in handy doing all this. We also frequencly use the anteras, ohmboyz and hundreds of freeware plug-ins.

Mastering, Mixing: PSP Vintage Warmer (used subtley), Waves Mercury bundle. Do most of this in wavelab, it’s nice to take a finished song into a new context.

Our software is generally outdated, we often do things the ‘long way round,’ mainly down to habit. Still though, I don’t think that enough emphasis is put on familiarity with your own equipment. If someone gave me the best computer in the world with evey plug-in ever, I wouldnt be able to make anything.

Every few days, I will make a post with a short production tip - some will be obvious and patronising, some will be things I have just run into myself, and i’m sure some will be plain rubbish!
